Top 3 Budget Android smartphones

If you’ve recently lost your smartphone and you’re in need of a new one and don’t have much money to splash out on one right now or you’re not that fond of spending a lot of money on a phone, then this article is for you. In a nutshell, we’re going to look at the best Android smartphones you can get on a budget.

There isn’t much to say about the design of this phone. It certainly is not going to wow your friends nor is it ugly. It is just plain looking. It is just a basic smartphone with a no-frills approach to it. The build quality is good and the device runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which is almost 2 years old now. It comes with a dual-core 1 GHz processor from Qualcomm.

The performance of the phone is not super slick as expected but it doesn’t lag as much as other phones of the same price. The pixel resolution isn’t all that at 480x800 and the storage of the phone is very limited. It has 4GB of memory with but only half is available to use because the operating system takes up a lot of memory. Definitely not a phone you want to use to store a bunch of music on. You can use the Micro SD slot to store some music but Google won’t let you store any apps there.

The battery life is better than the average budget smartphone though so that is a good plus point for those that are very pragmatic about their choices of smartphone. You will probably need to charge the phone everyday if you use your phone a lot but most users can probably get away with charging it once every two days.

For a price of about $100 on Amazon, this is definitely something to look at if you’re on a budget.

This phone looks decent at least and comes with a UI that is close to stock Android. It features a 1 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor from Qualcomm and it also comes with 8GB of internal storage which isn’t much for someone who may want to listen to music and do other things on the phone but the storage is expandable by up to 32GB so once could leave the storage on the device for apps and add everything else to the SD card.

The rear camera is 8MP which is impressive, but the front camera comes in at a paltry 0.3MP. There is a dedicated camera button on the phone but we’re not to sure what to make of that and the phone comes in with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which is almost 2 years old now and is a long time when it comes to the tech world and the smartphone game in particular.

The screen is at a decent size at about 4.3 inches and the battery life is also quite decent. All in all it is a good smartphone to get if you want something cheap. The phone is currently going for about $172 on Amazon.

Moto G

The Moto G is the best smartphone you can get on the cheap. It is the international version of the Moto X Phone and it starts at $179 for the 8GB model and the 16GB model goes for $199. It would be economical to opt for the 16GB model since the storage is not expandable.

Everything about this smartphone is good when you look at the price you pay for it. The Moto G comes in with a resolution of 1280x720 and a pixel density of 326ppi which means that it is reasonably sharp. When you compare it with the sharpness of other devices which are in the high end section of the market, you will find very little difference.

One of the great things about this handset is that it came with Android 4.3 which hasn’t even been out for a year and has also gotten the upgrade to KitKat which means that right off the bat you can get KitKat when you purchase the phone. You won’t be stuck on JellyBean like all the other budget devices here and the phone also comes in with a Snapdragon 400 processor from Qualcomm which makes it quite zippy when it comes to performance.

The only downsides to this device is the lack of 4G LTE, and the camera which is average at best. The quality of the photos are not all that and the video quality is even worse. Despite all this, it is still a great device and you can check out our full review of the device here.

What do you think of these cheap handsets and do you have another device you would like to add? Please leave us a comment below and we will get back to you.
