A fair warning though, there is actually no app which allows you to watch free Game of Thrones as it airs on TV. Yes we searched around the internet to find such amazing apps to watch the Walking Dead on the train but legally no such option exists. The closest thing to great entertainment is LiveNow! An app which is available for free on Google Play.
The app was tested on a Samsung Galaxy S3, a Samsung Galaxy S5 and Asus MeMoPad 7 HD tablets. 3G and WiFi connections were used during the testing phase. The app performed fine although just like a real TV, sometimes there was nothing good to watch. So let’s get started on how to watch live TV on Android and get some tube on your smartphone.
Step 1 – Installation of the LiveNow! App
The first step in getting to watch live TV on Android is to locate the LiveNow! app on the Google Play Store. Follow the link below to get on the landing page of the app.

Now click on the “Install” button to get the app on your Android device. You can check the progress on your phone easily via the Google Play app or the notification tray.

Step 2 – Initializing the Live TV App
After the app is downloaded you need to locate it in your app drawer and tap on the icon.

The app will start to load. I noticed that the initial launch takes a little bit more time than the subsequent ones. The loading also depends on your signal strength, internet speed and of course the power of your Android tablet.

Now that the loading is done, you will be presented with the main screen. From here simply tap on the Live TV option to get to the channel list. You will be presented with a ton of options to choose from. There are some really interesting channels in this app. But unfortunately there are no network ones, but that is not a big deal if you are looking to spend some quality time.

Step 3 – Using the App to Watch Live TV on Android
Now that you have decided what genre to watch, simply tap on the icon you want to get going.

Select the channel which fancies your mood and simply give it a tap. We are aware that some channels are not available in some regions, so if something is not working simply move on to another one. With around 500 plus channels there is no shortage of great content.

After you clicked on a channel, the video will start buffering. The buffering is usually short on WiFi but can take longer depending on your internet speed and signal strength. Some channels take a little longer than others to initialize so kindly be patient. The following screen is shown for an extended period of time if the internet is slow.

Rest assured, until the app states otherwise, the video will load. Now you can watch live TV in Android with ease. Below is a screenshot of a video loaded in standard definition.
Step 4 – Working With the Live TV Interface
The app uses a basic interface which can be seen in the screen captures. There is a pause button and definition options. Some TV channels can also be forwarded to a certain point, which is a great feature to get to the juicy parts of the show.

Overall the app has a satisfactory interface which will be adequate for your viewing pleasure. There is one annoying thing about the interface though; the pause button overstays its welcome for way too long. No one likes a big pause symbol right in the middle of a screen while there is some action going on in the video. The video controls also take a tad bit longer to vanish from the screen, it is not that big of a deal though and is certainly a personal qualm.

Thoughts on Quality With Live TV on Android
Some channels are not broadcasted in widescreen format so please be prepared to watch square transitions.

Thankfully some channels do support widescreens and they look remarkable when viewed in landscape mode. The stream quality depends on the source; if the source is not broadcasting in HD there is no way to get a clear picture on your Android device. Here is how a video looks in HD:

Think About Getting a Live TV Subscription
Some channels require a subscription to work but they are very few. The ads can also be removed by paying for a subscription. If you are not annoyed by the ads, the app works flawlessly.

Conclusion

Now you know how to watch live TV on Android. Some of the channels looked amazing on my smartphone while others lacked that “high definition” shine we are used to. In the end, it is free live TV on Android and nothing can beat a free service. I used a HDMI cable to connect my smartphone to a HDTV and enjoyed watching foreign TV on a big screen. LiveNow! is an incredible app and will provide you with quality entertainment for a long time. Let us know in the comments section if you have any questions. What’s next?
